Ask Eric Anything, Books and More Comics News…

Well, here we are, less than a week in and there are already five really great questions for the Ask Eric Anything promo. They are a nice range from silly- which is always my favorite to downright encrypted. I hope to be getting more, so that there is more of a chance at aa random winner but, hey, if you don’t participate you don’t get a say…SO ASK QUESTIONS.

I have yet to check the sales for “Stories Around the Campfire,” it’s a bit premature to be checking sales, but curiosity has always been my little hidden trait, so I have no idea how it’s going and I am really more concerned with getting the next project finished and out there right now.

In comics news…

Everyone who is a reader, a fan a fanboy if you will of Comics medium has been talking about the DC reboot happening in September. What it means, what are the ramifications and what continuity will arise from the pages of every single DC comic book having to start over at issue one.

I am going to be devoting my time between running through the list of important reboots, just not today because I have something else to do with my time. I just wanted to throw out this quick post as I will be delivering a series of much longer posts in the near future.

Batman Reboot and more !

Good morning. I have been busy lately, yes very busy and I have been busy here as well. No, I haven’t done much with the decorations, nothing with the design or theme of the site. It’s the content that I’ve been busy with and you all have responded well to the inspired amount of posting that has happened recently.

Yesterday we left off with a discussion about the new Spiderman reboot happening however I would like to pivot, for a post, to the implied and now confirmed intelligence that they, DC comics/Warner Bros, that they will be rebooting the Batman franchise after Chris Nolan’s run on The Dark Knight Rises.

Yes, I recently found an article featuring a quip from Warner Bros president Jeff Robinov, that has him saying that he will have the franchise rebooted after Chris Nolan’s run as well as alluding to the fact that Warner/Dc want to make a Justice League of America movie-in the same vein that Marvel are doing their Avengers film.

here’s the Article : IGN.com

This then lead me to trolling around for information on The Dark Knight Rises and I am starting to get the feeling that it (TDKR) will either be the most pivotal work in Batman’s long franchise at the movie theatre or it will infact break the franchise wide open.

There is a TON of rumor and unconfirmed intelligence surrounding The Dark Knight Rises. IMDb have a mostly finished cast list, but even there, some room is left for the imagination to play. It has a possible cameo by Ra’s Al Ghoul, and more.

The plot behind The Dark Knight Rises is also speculative. The inclusion of Bane and Catwoman, two facts that have long been known, seems as if there will be some form of tie in with the Batman comics story arc of “Knightfall,” or at least some sense of that story arc somewhere within the movie.

For those born out of the loop of “Knightfall’s” events the story is this:

In a quest to beat the greatest detective on the face of the earth and unite the most powerful crime families in Gotham, Bane, a super pumped up meth head from south america or wherever (fuzzy can’t remember) comes to Gotham and blows the doors wide open on Arkham Asylu. This then lets the worst of the worst out into the streets of Gotham, tires Batman out to the breaking point and allows Bane to literally break Batman, by crippling him with a massive spinal injury.(That’s the short version, I’ve left out several other factors for brevity)

The appearance of Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises could be a way for Nolan to pull this off, it could also be a way for Nolan to fuck this up-it seems a hard bit of medicine to swallow given the awesome scope of The Dark Knight, but and this is in my opinion, Nolan sort of jumped the gun with the whole Two Face story in The Dark Knight, I could see this spiraling into a bad movie- I could see this being Inception Batman with undertones of Joel S’s prior films, albeit a grittier, dirtier version.

But really the more important story here is the studio and DC’s intent on rebooting the franchise to coincide with a Justice League movie.

The only saving grace from the interview with Robinov was that the new Batman reboot would be overseen by Nolan and his Wife, though, the success of The Dark Knight Rises isn’t far from guaranteed, at least in the initial box office returns opening weekend, it’s still a troubling thought that studios and companies such as Marvel and DC would lend their greatest hero’s out like cheap whores, just to turn a quick buck again and again.

So I leave it up to you to decide and I leave it up for debate. Should there be a Batman Reboot?

Stress, Writers Block and What The Hell is That?

I’m having a bit of a go at trying to get out of the head space of so much stress, and getting back to writing on a regular schedule. It’s not like I have too many deadlines lined up for projects that are 100 percent essential, it’s just that I have certain goals that I established for myself this year, when it comes to writing that is, and I’m not hitting those goals. And it’s becoming increasingly less likely that I will. And I’m just fucking tired.

Then again, I don’t really have anyone to blame but myself. In fact I could be writing something right now, well, yes of course I am writing something right now, but I mean something that contributes to the goals as stated above, not this silly post about why I’m not hitting the.

Sometimes, yes I know, I don’t make any fucking sense. Move on, I have.

And that’s really the big decision that I have to make. I have to decide to sit down and seriously move on in writing. I have to force myself to write something, at least 500 words, push through the self doubt and dryness of the old brain.

I normally do so under the extreme influence of too much caffeine, but even that wonder drug has been failing me as of late.

I’m looking at the the pieces and parts of works that I started and then never finished and trying to see if anything there can jump start me, but it’s all a sort of hodge podge of yes this bit is good, but this bit is bad.So thee’s nothing there that really gets me working. I’ve even tried to get back into reading, a task which I have let go for a good solid month or maybe longer, and I’m finding that difficult as well.

It’s just very hectic right now, and as I look back at the last few months worth of these posts, as sporadic as they are, that seems to be the underlying theme, a constant ramping up of the chaotic mess that is now completely entombed my life. Ah, well, the pity party moves along and I will pull myself out of it, but still, I’m tired of writing 10,000 words and then looking back and saying, “What the fuck am I doing?”

Moving on, because that’s what should happen now.

Batman news:

I opened up my feed reader today and found that promo clips from the upcoming The Dark Night Rises film have been released. This is via Mashable’s website…

Once again taking to viral social media marketing, the minds behind the Batman film franchise have released a string of clips to promote the upcoming flick, The Dark Knight Rises.Previously, fans were asked to crack a Twitter code to get a sneak peak at the film.

Now, the new YouTube videos show a Gotham descended into chaos while pointing fans toward a new Facebook page for the movie.

On YouTube, the four clips have seen between 18,000 and 179,000 views each as of this writing.

The Dark Knight Rises is scheduled to hit theaters in the U.S. and Canada on July 20, 2012. While it’s surprising to see such a tightly grouped volley of marketing almost a year ahead of the release, we applaud the marketers in question for their creative use of available web tools.

I’m sitting there watching the four clips that I will post here for you, and I’m looking at the mirror image of our current world, without any element of fantastic diffusion. The scenes could be ones that were on CNN last night. Honestly, I would like to believe, even though the villain line up seems, um, sub par at best, that this “Last,” Batman movie from Chris Nolan will catapult the super hero movie from simply being for fans to that of cinematic greatness. If the powerful images, that will most likely only show up on “B” rolls is this powerful, I can only hope and speculate that the actual movie is going to be even more brilliant.

Here’s the clips:
